Sports informatics is a new academic field that has suddenly attracted attention with the advent of computers, and is a field that systematically classifies and organizes sports-related information while at the same time building new information theories related to sports. Therefore, sports informatics is both an academic field that brings together a wide variety of sports information, and a research field that corrects the academic field to make it more rational and builds more accurate information theories.

　スポーツ情報学とは，コンピューターの登場によってにわかに注目を集めるようになった新しい学問領域であり，スポーツに関する情報を体系的に分類･整理し，同時に，スポーツに関する新たな情報理論を構築するための学問である。したがって，スポーツ情報学は，種々雑多なスポーツ情報を束ねる一つの学問体系であると同時に，その学問体系をより合理的なものに軌道修正しながらより精度の高い情報理論を構築していくための研究領域でもある。
