Japanese: スポーツ少年団 - スポーツしょうねんだん

A youth sports club that is engaged in organized activities centered on sports activities in the local community and is registered and certified by the Japan Youth Sports Club. It is also called a Junior Sports Club, and abbreviated as JSC. It was established by the Japan Amateur Sports Association on June 23, 1962, Olympic Day, as one of the events commemorating the 50th anniversary of the association's founding, with the aim of promoting healthy development of young people and local sports. The Japan Amateur Sports Association has a Japan Youth Sports Club representing the whole country within its internal organization, and the prefectural and municipal athletic associations also have their own Youth Sports Clubs representing their respective regions, which are responsible for their development.

地域社会においてスポーツ活動を中心に組織的な活動をしている少年のスポーツ･クラブで，日本スポーツ少年団に登録し，その認定を受けている。ジュニア･スポーツ･クラブともいい，略称JSC。青少年の健全育成と地域スポーツの振興を目的に，日本体育協会が協会創立50周年記念事業の一つとして1962年6月23日，オリンピックデーを期して創設した。日本体育協会の内部機構に全国を代表する日本スポーツ少年団を，また都道府県，市町村の体育協会にもそれぞれの地域を代表するスポーツ少年団を置き，育成に当たっている。
