This holiday commemorates the 50th day after Christ's resurrection (10th day after his ascension), when the Holy Spirit descended upon the apostles in the form of tongues of fire (Acts 2). Since this day coincided with the 50th day of the Old Testament Passover celebration, known as Pentecost, it is also called Pentecost (from the Greek word meaning 50th). → Related topics Pentecost | All Saints' Day | Pentecost Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
