Stanhopea (English spelling)

Japanese: スタンホペア（英語表記）Stanhopea

An evergreen orchid of the Stanhopea genus of the Orchidaceae family. There are about 50 species distributed in Central and South America, including Mexico, Brazil, and Peru, and all of them are epiphytic on trees. Small, slightly leathery, broad, cone-shaped leaves grow one by one from the pseudobulb. The flower stalk hangs almost vertically from the pseudobulb, and at the end of the stalk one to several large flowers with a diameter of 14 to 15 cm. The flowering period is short, and the flowers last for 2 to 3 days. The flowers are white or yellow, some with a red tinge, and have a strong fragrance. The original species is mainly cultivated, and there are few horticultural varieties and no interspecific hybrids.
