Kahocha Gensei - Pumpkin's Origin

Japanese: 加保茶元成 - かぼちゃのもとなり

1754-1828 A kyoka poet from the mid to late Edo period.
Born in the fourth year of the Horeki era. He was adopted by Murata Ichibei, the first head of the Daimonjiya brothel in Shin-Yoshiwara, Edo. He was active as a part of the Tenmei Kyoka world and presided over the Yoshiwara Ren. He was also known as a collector and appraiser of old coins. His wife was also active in Kyoka under the pen name Akikaze no Nyobo. He passed away on June 12, 1828, at the age of 75. His real surname was Okamoto. Another pen name was Bunro. His Kyoka collection was "Joanshu."

宝暦4年生まれ。江戸新吉原の妓楼大文字屋の初代村田市兵衛の養子となる。天明狂歌壇の一翼として活躍し,吉原連を主宰した。古銭の収集・鑑定家としても知られた。妻も秋風女房の号で狂歌に活躍。文政11年6月12日死去。75歳。本姓は岡本。別号に文楼。狂歌集に「上餡(じょうあん)集」。
