Japanese: 全頭類 - ぜんとうるい

A general term for fish belonging to the Holocephali subclass of the Chondrichthyes class. They are usually collectively referred to as chimaeras. There are 3 families, 6 genera, and 25 species distributed throughout the world. A total of 9 species are distributed in the waters near Japan, from the Chimaera order Chimaera family (Chimaera, White-spotted Chimaera, Jordanian Chimaera, Nine-spotted Chimaera, Rainbow Chimaera, Red Chimaera, and Tridacnididae) and the Chimaera order Chimaera family (Chima nigricans, Chimaera nigricans). The body is somewhat long, the tail extends like a thread, and the skin of adults is smooth, the upper jaw is holophytic and connected to the ventral surface of the skull, the teeth are fused to form a dental plate, there is only one pair of external gill slits, and the first dorsal fin spine can be freely folded down.

軟骨魚綱全頭亜綱Holocephaliに属する魚類の総称。ふつうはギンザメ類と総称される。全世界に3科6属25種が分布する。日本近海にはギンザメ目ギンザメ科(ギンザメ，シロブチギンザメ，ジョルダンギンザメ，ココノホシギンザメ，ニジギンザメ，アカギンザメ，ギンザメダマシ)およびテングギンザメ目テングギンザメ科(アズマギンザメ，テングギンザメ)の計9種が分布する。体がやや長く，尾部が糸状に延長し，成魚では皮膚が滑らかで，上あごは頭蓋骨の腹面と接合した全接型で，歯が癒合して歯板を形成し，外鰓孔（がいさいこう）は1対しかなく，第1背鰭棘（はいききよく）を自由に倒せる。
