Göta River (English spelling)

Japanese: イェータ[川]（英語表記）Göta älv

This river flows out of Lake Väner, Sweden's largest lake, in southwestern Sweden, and empties into the North Sea at Gothenburg. It is 93 km long. The Trollhätt waterfall (32 m high) near the lake is a popular tourist attraction. If the Klar älven River, which flows into Lake Väner, is considered as a series, it is the longest river in Sweden. Boats can travel upstream to Lake Väner by bypassing several waterfalls via canals, and it is the main waterway for water transport in the Göta region. Several castles have been built along the coast since the Middle Ages, and in modern times waterwheels and power plants have been built, making it an advanced industrial area.

スウェーデン南西部，同国最大の湖ベーネル湖から流れ出て，イェーテボリで北海へ注ぐ川。全長93km。湖の近くにあるトロルヘッテTrollhätt滝(高さ32m)は観光名所である。ベーネル湖に流れこむクラール川Klar älvenを一連と考えると，スウェーデン最長の川である。いくつかの滝を運河で迂回してベーネル湖まで船が遡行でき，イェータ地方の水運の主脈である。沿岸には中世からいくつもの城砦が築かれ，近世以後は，水車，発電所などができ，工業の先進地になった。
