A scholar of the Jain White Robe School in India in the 8th century. Dates of birth and death unknown. He is said to be a disciple of Jinabhadra (also called Jinabhaṭa). He was active in Western India and produced numerous works in many fields. He was the first person to write commentaries on the sacred texts in Sanskrit, and also contributed to the development of Indian narrative literature as the author of the famous religious narrative work Samaraitchakah, written in the vernacular Maharashtri.HaribhadraSource: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
8世紀ころのインドのジャイナ教白衣(びやくえ)派の学匠。生没年不詳。ジナバドラJinabhadra(ジナバタJinabhaṭaなどともいう)の弟子とされる。西インドで活躍し,多方面にわたって数多くの著述を残した。彼は聖典に対してサンスクリットで注釈を書いた最初の人であると同時に,また俗語マーハーラーシュトリーで書かれた有名な宗教説話文学《サマラーイッチャカハー》の作者としてインドの物語文学の発達にも寄与した。
