Ietada's Diary

Japanese:
Ietada's Diary
This is a 7-volume diary that covers the period from 1577 to 1594 when Matsudaira Ietada served as an aide to Tokugawa Ieyasu. It details the activities of Ieyasu and other feudal lords, as well as the lives of the samurai of the time. There are several copies in the National Archives of Japan and elsewhere. The published version is included in the Bunka Daigaku Shishi Sosho. There is also the Ietada Diary Supplement and Addition (25 volumes) compiled by Ietada's grandson Tadafuyu, which is based on the Ietada Diary but adds additions to the period before Bunroku 3 and adds the period from 1596 onwards, covering the period up to 1616 when Ieyasu died. It was the first to compile the historical facts related to the founding of the Tokugawa clan, but compared to the Ietada Diary, it is of little historical value.
