Scarborough (English spelling)
A city in the eastern part of North Yorkshire, northern England, England. It is part of the Scarborough district. It is a resort town facing the North Sea, about 60 km northeast of York. It is said to have been founded by Viking warriors, and the name is thought to be derived from this. The town was granted its first royal charter by Henry II in 1181, and later flourished as a commercial center, and was sung about in the famous English popular song "Scarborough Fair". It became a resort after the discovery of medicinal mineral springs in 1626, and became known as a bathing beach in the 18th century. After the railway was opened in 1845, it developed further as a popular seaside resort. There are many old and established hotels, which are used as various conference halls. It is also famous as a venue for cricket tournaments, tennis, and golf tournaments. The grave of Anne Bronte, the youngest sister of the Bronte sisters, is located in the Cathedral of St. Mary. The area of ​​the district is 817 km2 . The population of the district is 106,233 (2001). Urban population: 38,364 (2001).
