Harpago chiragra

Harpago chiragra
A snail shell of the family Polytminae (illustration). It is large, with the shell reaching a height of 24 cm and a width of 16 cm. It is named after the six thick, long, horn-like protrusions that form the shape of the character for water. The surface of the shell is yellow with many small brown spots, and there are thick, low ribs with thin ribs between them. The shell opening is pale pink, and the outer lip opens wide and becomes thick on the inside and outside, narrowing the area where the soft body enters and exits, with many wrinkles. In young shells, the shell is thin and does not have the six protrusions, and the shell opening cannot be narrowed, so it looks like a different species. There are shiny ring-shaped eyes at the tips of the antennae on the head of the soft body.
