Shirasawa [village] - Shirasawa

Japanese: 白沢[村] - しらさわ
Shirasawa [village] - Shirasawa
A village in Adachi County in central Fukushima Prefecture. Population 8,872 (1995). It borders Koriyama City to the south and Nihonmatsu City to the north. It is on the western edge of the Abukuma Highlands, and the terrain is undulating, with arable land opening up in the lowlands between the mountains. The main industry is agriculture, with rice, sericulture, tobacco cultivation, and livestock farming being carried out, but the scale of operations is small. Although it was off the Tohoku Main Line and National Route 4, with the completion of the Tohoku and Ban'etsu Expressways, the town is taking advantage of its location surrounded by four interchanges and is developing into a residential area. There are many commuters to Koriyama City and surrounding cities and towns.

Shirasawa [village]

A village in Tone County, northeastern Gunma Prefecture. Population 3,534 (1995). It is located at the eastern edge of the Numata Basin, bordering Numata City to the east. It occupies the mountainous area on the north bank of the Katashina River, a tributary of the Tone River, with the Shirasawa River flowing south through the center. Most of the cultivated land is farmland, primarily used for vegetable production. Konjac is also grown. After World War II, a land improvement project was carried out to draw water from the Katashina River, and the area was opened up for business. National Route 120 runs along the Katashina River, and many people commute to Numata City. [Chiba Tatsuya]
