Mithridates I

King of the Parthian Arsacid dynasty. Reigned 171-139 or 138 BC. Also known as Mithradates I. During the first half of his reign he tried to recover the eastern territories that had been taken by the Bactrian Empire, which he achieved in about 155 BC. He then turned westward, conquering Media, which had become independent from Seleucid Syria, and in 141 BC he occupied Seleucia and annexed Babylonia. He fought against the Seleucids, capturing their king Demetrius II in 139 BC, and conquered Elymais (Susa region) in southwestern Iran.

アルサケス朝パルティアの王。在位，前171‐前139か138年。ミトラダテス1世Mithradates Iともいう。治世前半はバクトリア王国に奪われていた東方の失地回復に努め，前155年ころに目的を達成した。そのあと西方に向かい，セレウコス朝シリアから自立していたメディアを征服し，前141年にはセレウキアを占領してバビロニアを併合した。反撃してきたセレウコス朝と対戦し，前139年に敵王デメトリオス2世を捕らえ，さらにイラン南西部のエリュマイス(スーサ地方)を征服した。
