Abbreviation for International Air Transport Association. Also read as AIAT. An organization of private airlines established by the Havana Agreement in 1945. Aiata aims to standardize fares, service content, and aviation technology in order to develop air transport. In October 1979, the organization was restructured to make the fare setting method more flexible. As of July 1999, the number of members is 265 (247 regular members and 18 associate members). Japan's regular members are Japan Airlines, All Nippon Airways, Japan Air System, and Nippon Cargo Airlines.
