A marine fish of the Perciformes order, Percidae family (illustration). It is found along the coasts of Japan, the East China Sea, Taiwan, and the northern South China Sea. It is an important food fish that can reach a maximum length of 1m. Since a large number of bones have often been excavated from shell mounds, it is thought to have been widely used since ancient times. The body is slightly long and laterally compressed, the back is bluish gray, the abdomen is silvery white, and some individuals have small black spots scattered on the sides and dorsal fin. It is a fish that changes its name as it grows. Around Tokyo, it goes from Koppa (total length about 10cm) → Seigo (25cm) → Fukko (35cm) → Suzuki (over 60cm) → Ootaro (old adult fish), and around Lake Hamana, from small ones, it goes from Seigo → Matakaa → Oomata → Kochuu → Chiuo → Ochu → Omono.
