Mind is reason - Shinsokuri

A proposition of Lu Wang's philosophy. In Neo-Confucianism, the mind is considered to include both nature (reason) and emotion (qi), and to have the potential for evil due to emotion (desire). Therefore, nature (reason) and the mind are strictly distinguished, and the theory that nature is reason is advocated. In contrast, Lu Xiangshan emphasizes the essential nature of the mind, considers the mind to be one with reason itself, and advocates the theory that mind is reason. In this case, the mind is roughly equivalent to nature in Neo-Confucianism, and overlaps with the theory that nature is reason. Wang Yangming was troubled by the discrepancy between the reason of things and our mind, and called for the workings of the mind to conform to reason, calling it "mind is reason." Wang Yangming opposed Neo-Confucianism's belief that reason is inherent in all things outside the mind, and its emphasis on the pursuit of truth resulted in the pursuit of reason in things outside the mind. Wang Yangming's understanding of reason does not include reason as the basis for the existence of things, but rather means reason as an ethical standard of action.

陸王(りくおう)学の命題。朱子学では、心は、性（理）と情（気）との両面を含み、その情（欲）に起因する悪への可能性をもつ、とみなされる。したがって、性（理）と心とは厳密に区別され、性即理説が主張される。それに対し、陸象山(りくしょうざん)は、心の本質的なあり方を重視し、心を理そのものと一体になったものととらえて、心即理説を主張する。この場合の心は、朱子学でいう性にほぼ妥当することになり、性即理説と重なる部分をもつ。王陽明は、物の理とわが心とが一致しないことに悩み、心の働きそのものが理にかなうことを要請して、それを心即理と名づけた。朱子学が、心の外のすべての事物にも理が内在しているとし、窮理を重んじた結果、心外にある事物の理を追究していることに、王陽明は反対したのである。王陽明のいう理は、事物の存在の根拠としての理を含まず、行為の倫理的規範としての理を意味している。
