Tinamou (English spelling)

Japanese: シギダチョウ(鷸駝鳥) - シギダチョウ（英語表記）tinamou

A general term for birds of the Tinamidae family in the order Tinamudinos. This family includes about 46 species in nine genera, and is found from southern Mexico to southern South America. It is 20-54 cm long and weighs 450-2,300 g. It is about the size of a quail or black grouse, and is a terrestrial bird very similar to the partridge or guinea fowl of the Phasianidae family, but its skeletal and other characteristics are closer to those of ratites (especially rheas). However, unlike ratites, tinamous have a keel on their sternum and can fly.
