Japanese: 告白録 - こくはくろく

JJ Rousseau's autobiography. The original title is "Les confessions," or sometimes "The Confessions." Rousseau, who spent the latter half of his life suffering from delusions of persecution, dissects his own character and circumstances in the form of a confession of the "I" as it is, and while frankly telling the history of his "soul," both good and evil, he movingly portrays a new image of man based on the modern ego. Written in 1765, both parts 1 and 2 were published posthumously. It became one of the sources of modern literature, and had a great influence on Japanese naturalism.

J.J.ルソーの自伝。原題は《Les confessions》といい，《告白》とも。後半生を迫害妄想で過ごしたルソーが，あるがままの〈私〉の告白というかたちで自己の性格や境遇を解剖，その〈魂〉の歴史を善も悪も素直に語りながら近代的自我による新しい人間像を感動的に描く。1765年起稿し，第１部，第２部とも死後出版。近代文学の一つの源流となり，日本の自然主義に与えた影響も大きい。
