A feudal lord in the early modern period. He is said to have lived in Shinjo, Sakata County, Omi Province. Shinjo Naoyori originally served the Toyotomi clan, but in 1604 (Keicho 9) he joined Tokugawa Hidetada and was given 30,300 koku of land in Aso, Hitachi. Later, he was given 3,000 koku in his share. Furthermore, in 1674 (Enpo 2), when Naonori succeeded to his fief, his brother-in-law Naotoki was given 7,000 koku in his share. When Naonori died in 1676, he had no heir and his fief was confiscated, but Naotoki inherited the family name. He was given another 3,000 koku, bringing his total to 10,000 koku, and this continued until the end of the Edo period. The head of the family was appointed as Jugoinoshita Suruga no Kami or Echizen no Kami, among other positions. After the Meiji Restoration, he was made a viscount.
