Nada is a general term for the coastal areas in the western part of Settsu Province, and is the common name for the area where sake brewing has been thriving since the Edo period. It is also called Nadame (meaning Nada area), and refers to the area from the mouth of the Muko River in the east to the area near the old Ikuta River in the west. From the mid-Edo period onwards, Edo-tsumi sake brewing flourished, replacing advanced areas such as Itami and Ikeda, and in 1772, Kami-Nadame and Shimonadame were counted among the 10 sake houses in Kamigata. In 1784, three villages, including Imazu, joined the Edo-tsumi sake brewing association of 12 villages in Settsu. Kami-Nada's development was particularly remarkable, and at its peak it was divided into three groups (three villages). These three villages and Shimonada were combined to form the 4th Nadame group, and together with Imazu, they were called the 5th Nada village. During the Meiji period, Shimonada withdrew from this association, but when the Settsu Nada Sake Brewers Association was formed again in 1886, Nishinomiya joined, and together with Imazu, Uozaki, Mikage, and Saigo, the Nada Gogo was formed, which continues to this day.
