A law regarding the quantitative relationship between stimuli and sensations. When you place an object of size Sg in your hand and gradually increase its weight until it reaches (S + ΔS)g, the difference in weight is first felt. ΔS is called the absolute discrimination threshold, and ΔS/S is called the relative discrimination threshold. EH Weber discovered the law ΔS/S = C (C is a constant) (Weber's law). However, this is known to be mostly valid when the amount of stimulus is moderate. GT Fechner expanded on this and established the law R = C log S (R is the amount of sensation, C is a constant, and S is the amount of stimulus in units of the absolute discrimination threshold). This is called Fechner's law or Weber-Fechner law. This also holds approximately within a limited range.

刺激と感覚との量的関係に関する法則。Sgの物を手に載せて少しずつ重さを増し（S＋ΔS）gに至って初めて重さの違いが感じられる時，ΔSを絶対弁別閾(いき)，ΔS/Sを相対弁別閾という。E.H.ウェーバーはΔS/S＝C（Cは定数）という法則（ウェーバーの法則）を発見した。ただしこれは刺激量が中等度の場合にほぼ妥当することが知られている。G.T.フェヒナーはこれを拡張し，R＝C log S（Rは感覚量，Cは定数，Sは絶対弁別閾を単位とした刺激量）という法則を立てた。これをフェヒナーの法則またはウェーバー=フェヒナーの法則という。これも限られた範囲で近似的に成立する。
