A telephone installed on a train so that people on board can make calls. The train and base station are connected by radio communication, and calls can be made to regular subscriber phones via the base station switching equipment. In Japan, they were first installed on limited express trains of Kintetsu Railway in 1956, and in 1960 they were also installed on limited express trains on the Tokaido Main Line of Japanese National Railways (now JR), and currently they are installed on all Shinkansen trains.
