Book of Qin (English spelling)

Japanese: 秦書 - しんしょ（英語表記）Qín shū

A style of writing commonly used in the Qin dynasty of China. The name Qinshu appears in Xu Shen's description of the Shuowen Jiezi. It is described as follows: "First, Large Seal Script; Second, Small Seal Script; Third, Carved Signs; Fourth, Insect Script; Fifth, Faked Seal; Sixth, Signatures; Seventh, Son Script; Eighth, Li Script." In this way, Insect Script is the character engraved on a sign, Insect Script is the character written on a flag, Faked Seal is the character used on a seal, Signatures is the character written on a tablet, and Son Script is the character written on a weapon, each of which is a special style of writing. There are three styles of writing used in daily life: Large Seal Script, Small Seal Script, and Li Script.

中国，秦代に通行した書体。秦書の名は許慎の《説文解字》叙に見える。〈一に曰く大篆，二に曰く小篆，三に曰く刻符，四に曰く蟲書（ちゆうしよ），五に曰く摹印（ぼいん），六に曰く署書，七に曰く殳書（しゆしよ），八に曰く隸書〉とあって，刻符は符契に刻する文字，蟲書は旗幟に書する文字，摹印は印章に用いる文字，署書は扁額に記す文字，殳書は兵器に記す文字で，それぞれ特殊な書体。日常の書体は，大篆，小篆，隸書の3体である。
