The powerful man in the Northern Zhou dynasty of China. Son of the elder brother of Yuwen Tai. After Tai's death, he assisted Tai's heir Jue, and forced Jue to take the throne from Emperor Gong of the Western Wei dynasty. This established the Northern Zhou dynasty. Hu later deposed Emperor Xiaomin (Jue), killed Emperor Ming who succeeded him, and installed Emperor Wu. Hu was instrumental in establishing the foundation of the Northern Zhou dynasty, but Emperor Wu hated his tyranny and killed him.

中国，北周の実権者。宇文泰の兄の子。泰の死後その遺命によって泰の世子覚を補佐し，西魏の恭帝の帝位を覚に譲らせた。これによって北周が成立した。護はのち孝閔帝 (覚) を廃し，さらに，その跡を継いだ明帝を殺して武帝を立てた。護は北周の基礎を固めるのに功績があったが，その専横を憎んだ武帝によって殺された。
