A poetry magazine. First published in September 1928 (Showa 3), and ceased publication in June 1933. Total of 20 issues. Quarterly. The title was changed to "Bungaku" from issue 15 (March 1932). The supplementary volume "Modern English Literature Criticism" (November 1930) and the annual "Shosetsu" (January 1932) were also published by Kosei-kaku Shoten. It was modeled after the international avant-garde magazine "Transition" from Paris. It became a magnetic field for various methodological experiments exploring "today's poetry," such as new prose poetry (Kitagawa Fuyuhiko, Anzai Fuyue), surrealism (Nishiwaki Junzaburo, Ueda Toshio, Takiguchi Shuzo), formalism (Haruyama Yukio, Kitazono Katsue), and cine-poem (Takenaka Iku, Kondo Azuma), and formed the backbone of Showa poetry history. Under the banner of ESPRIT NOUVEAU, it featured works by Valéry, Gide, Joyce, T.S. Eliot, and others, and was directly influenced by Western modernist literature, introducing methods and techniques such as automatism, monologue interière, and stream of consciousness. It pioneered the way of emerging art schools and psychological literature. It is a monumental poetry magazine for the poetic youth of Showa literature. As part of the literary movement of "Poetry and Poetics," Haruyama Yukio edited and planned the 23-volume "Modern Art and Criticism Series" (April 1929 - July 1932), which also attracted attention for its striking impact on the historical formation of modernist literature.
