...Since the late 1960s, the concept of art has become increasingly multi-polarized, and various experiments have been carried out since the emergence of conceptual art, which seeks to reduce art to the origin of the relationship between matter and humans. Land art by artists such as Dennis Oppenheim (1938- ), Robert Smithson (1938-73), and Christo chose deserts and beaches as the setting for their works, and super-realism by artists such as Chuck Close (1940- ) also emerged. It also became more diverse, ranging from those that rejected expression itself to D. Flavin's attempt at pure vision through fluorescent light art, but it lost momentum in the late 1970s, and the expressionist New Painting appeared in the early 1980s, but it did not become a new breakthrough. ...

…60年代後半から美術概念が飛躍的に多極化し，美術を物質と人間のかかわりの原点にまで還元しようとする概念芸術(コンセプチュアル･アート)の出現以来，さまざまな実験が繰りひろげられた。オッペンハイムDennis Oppenheim(1938‐　)，スミッソンRobert Smithson(1938‐73)，クリストなどのランド･アートLand Artは，砂漠や海岸などを造形の場に選び，クローズChuck Close(1940‐　)らのスーパーリアリズムも出現する。さらに表現そのものを拒否するものから，D.フレービンなどの蛍光による純粋視覚の試み(ライト･アート)まで多岐をきわめたが，70年代後半からエネルギーを失い，80年代初めに表現主義的な〈ニュー･ペインティングNew Painting〉が登場したが，新しい突破口にはなっていない。…
