Synchro Electric - Shinkuro Denki (English name) synchros

A type of multiple rotary transformer used to electrically connect two shafts that are difficult to mechanically connect. There are indicator synchros and power synchros. An indicator synchro consists of a transmitter and a receiver, and both have the same structure. The stator side has a three-phase winding that electrically connects the three-phase windings of the transmitter and receiver. The rotor side has a single-phase winding that is connected to a common single-phase power source. For example, if the transmitter is on the second floor and the receiver is on the basement, when the rotor on the transmitting side is rotated by θ, the rotor on the receiving side will immediately rotate by θ as well. Therefore, it can be used to transmit commands from the transmitting side to the receiving side. Note that the terms transmitting and receiving are used on a scale; if the rotor on the receiving side is rotated a certain angle first, the rotor on the transmitting side will immediately rotate by that angle as well.

A power synchro is a device that perfectly matches the speed of two electric motors located at different distances. "Selsyn" is a product name of Synchro Electric.

With the spread of electronics, synchro has fallen out of use since the 1980s, and instead, a method has been used in which a rotation sensor such as a rotary encoder detects the rotation of the shaft and controls the other side by transmitting a signal. This is called synchronous control.

機械的に結合が困難な二つの軸を電気的に結ぶための複数の回転式変圧器。指示シンクロと動力シンクロがある。指示シンクロは、送信機と受信機とからなり、両者は同じ構造である。固定子側には三相巻線があり、送信機と受信機の三相巻線を電気的に結ぶ。回転子側には単相巻線があり、共通の単相電源に結んである。たとえば送信機は2階に、受信機は地階にあるような場合、送信側の回転子をθだけ回転させると、受信側の回転子もただちにθだけ回転するような動きをする。したがって、送信側から受信側へ命令を伝達するような使い方ができる。なお送・受信という呼び方はかりにつけたもので、先に受信側で回転子をある角度だけ回転させれば、送信側の回転子もただちにその角度だけ回転する。

 動力シンクロは、離れた所にある2台の電動機の速度を完全に合致するようにしたものである。なお、「セルシン」selsynはシンクロ電機の商品名である。

 エレクトロニクスの普及により、1980年代以降はシンクロは使われなくなり、ロータリーエンコーダーなどの回転センサーにより軸の回転を検出し、信号伝送により他方を制御する方式が用いられるようになった。これを同期制御という。
