This is the most primitive group of the thin-walled ferns, and its fossils can be traced back to the Carboniferous period. They are classified based on the structure of the sporangium, but looking at the structure of the vegetative organs, they are not considered to be a family of uniform content, and recently they are usually divided into four families: Acanthaceae, Cynocalaceae, Anemiaceae, and Mauriaceae.
