Linter

Japanese: リンター
Linter

Cotton seed hairs are formed by the elongation of epidermal cells of cotton seeds ( Gossypium genus). There are long lint and short fuzz, and of the latter, short fibers less than 5 mm in length are called linters. Generally, the lint attached to the cotton seed is harvested with a cotton gin, and the remaining short hairs are harvested with a special cotton gin. This is what is known as cotton linters. Refined linters have a high content of highly polymerized cellulose and are widely used as a raw material for the production of cellulose derivatives.
