Western Roman Emperor (reigned 467-472). Son-in-law of Byzantine Emperor Marcian. He was placed on the Western Roman throne by Marcian's successor Emperor Leo I, but was approved by the Western Roman powerhouse F. Ricimer on the condition that he marry his daughter Alypia. After ascending to the throne, he was accused of reviving paganism because he was a Greek philosopher, and after the failure of the Vandal campaign, he came into conflict with Ricimer, was defeated, and was killed.

西ローマ皇帝 (在位 467～472) 。ビザンチン皇帝マルキアヌスの女婿。マルキアヌスの後継皇帝レオ1世によって西ローマ帝位につけられたが，西ローマの実力者 F.リキメルによって娘アリピアとの結婚を条件に登位を承認された。即位後，ギリシア人で哲学者であったため，異教復活の疑いをかけられ，さらに対バンダル人遠征の失敗によって，リキメルと対立して敗れ，殺された。
