Torikai-so

Japanese:
Torikai-so
A manor of Iwashimizu Hachimangu Shrine in Mihara County, Awaji Province. It is identified with the southern part of Goshiki Town, Tsuna County, Hyogo Prefecture (present-day Sumoto City). It appears to be Torikai Manor in the 1185 Minamoto no Yoritomo Shimobunan. According to the 1223 Awaji no Kuni Otabun, it consisted of 30 cho of rice fields, a field, and one bay. The land steward was Fujimi no Morinaga, a provincial vassal, but after the Jōkyū War, Sano Shichirō Nyūdō, a Kanto vassal, was appointed. Torikai Betsumiya, a branch shrine of Iwashimizu Hachimangu Shrine, was enshrined within the manor. From around 1264, disputes arose between Iwashimizu Hachimangu Shrine and the land steward Sano Tomitsuna over the affairs of the manor, such as inspection, land steward's share, management of the shipyard, and the appointment and religious ceremonies of Torikai Betsumiya Shrine's shrine officials, and in 1278, the manor was compromised. However, disputes reignited over whether or not to honor this agreement, and the terms of the agreement were confirmed again in 1287. According to the Hyogo Kitakan Iriyū Ship Tax Book of 1445, the annual tax from the manor to be delivered to Iwashimizu Hachimangu Shrine was unloaded by ship at Hyogo Port.
