[Basic Doctrines]
What is the law (truth = teaching) that Shakyamuni realized and preached to people? The basic doctrine of Buddhism is often summarized in four phrases: "Impermanence of all things," "All things are painful," "No self in all things," and "Nirvana is serenity" (these are generally called the Four Dharma Seals. Sometimes, excluding "All things are painful," they are called the Three Dharma Seals).
