Yoshii-Higashi Kashiwazaki Gas Field - Yoshii-Higashi Kashiwazaki Gas Field

Discovered in 1968 by Japan Petroleum Exploration Co., Ltd., this is one of Japan's largest gas fields, located in hills about 8km east of Kashiwazaki City, Niigata Prefecture. The anticline that forms this gas field is called the Central Oil Zone, and stretches 25km from north to south, with the gas residing in the southern part of the zone. The production area is 3km wide and 16km long, with a gas collection area of about ^19km2 . The depth is between about 2300m and 2700m. The gas-producing layer is a volcanic rock in the Miocene Nanatani Formation, which is rare worldwide. In 1996, the daily production was about 930,000m3 of gas and about 173kl of condensate.

1968年に石油資源開発(株)によって発見された日本最大級のガス田で，新潟県柏崎市の東方約8kmの丘陵地にある。このガス田を形成している背斜構造は中央油帯と呼ばれ，南北25kmあり，ガスはこの油帯の南部に賦存している。その産出範囲は幅3km，長さ16kmにわたり，集ガス面積は約19km²。深度は約2300～2700mの間にある。ガスの産出層は中新世七谷層中の火山岩類で世界的に珍しい。96年には日産約93万m3のガスと約173klのコンデンセートを産出している。
