China, later Han Emperor Liu of the Dynasty. Reigned from 75 to 88. Known as the Magnificent Elder, he reformed harsh politics by abolishing cruel punishments. He learned classical literature from Jia Kui, and convened a group of Confucian scholars to discuss the differences between the Five Classics and personally attended the meeting to make decisions. When he first ascended to the throne, the Quci and the Northern Xiongnu invaded, but he took a passive approach and gave up his positions as the Protector of the Western Regions and Wuji Duwei (Chesshi, head of the military district). However, Ban Chao stayed in Shule and attacked Shache, driving away the Quci, achieving success in the Western Regions strategy.

中国，後漢代の皇帝劉。在位75‐88年。寛厚の長者と称され，惨酷な刑罰を廃止するなど苛切な政治を改めた。賈逵（かき）から古文学を修得し，また群儒を召集して五経の異同を討論させ，親臨して決裁した。即位当初，亀茲（きじ｜クチヤ）や北匈奴が侵攻したが，消極策を取り，西域都護や戊己都尉(車師，屯田区の責任者)を中止した。しかし，班超が疏勒（そろく）にとどまり，莎車を撃ち亀茲を退散させ，西域経略に功を収めた。
