Coacervate

Japanese:
Coacervate
When coagulation occurs in a hydrocolloid solution, the colloidal particles aggregate and separate from the liquid, but under certain conditions the colloidal particles do not separate completely, but instead maintain equilibrium with the liquid and separate into a colloid-rich layer and a colloid-poor layer. This phenomenon is called coacervation, with the colloid-rich layer being called the coacervate and the colloid-poor layer being called the equilibrium liquid. This phenomenon has been observed in substances found in biological cells, such as rubber, proteins, gelatin, and cellulose, and is therefore thought to have important biological significance. In particular, opaline has attracted attention as the protoplasm inside cells has many similarities to coacervates, and it is believed to have played an important role in the origin of life on Earth. →Life→Related topicsOrigin of life
