Located in the southeastern Bay of Bengal, it consists of 204 islands. The four main islands are North, Central, South and Lesser Andaman. Together with the Nicobar Islands, it is a direct territory of the Union of India. It is hot and humid. It exports hardwoods and tropical products. It was a British penal colony from 1858 to 1945. Its inhabitants are Andamanese of Negrito descent and Indian immigrants. Its capital is Port Blair. It has an area of ​​6,475 km2 and a population of 240,089 (1991).
