A prefecture-level city located in the northern part of Henan Province, China, at the southern foot of the Taihang Mountains on the border with Shanxi Province. It has jurisdiction over four city districts and four counties, and acts as the administrator for two county-level cities (as of 2016). It has a population of 3,696,000 (2014). It became a city in 1956. Coal mining development began during the Tang Dynasty, and in the early 20th century, one of China's largest high-quality anthracite coal mines was developed. In addition, steel, cement, and pharmaceutical factories were built, and it has developed into one of Henan Province's leading industrial cities. In addition to the Shingetsu Line (Xinxiang-Yueshan), the Jiaoliu Line runs from the city to Luoyang East, Nanyang, and on to Xiangyang in Hubei Province, Zhicheng, Huaihua in Hunan Province, and Liuzhou in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The Taijiao Line also connects to Taiyuan in Shanxi Province, and the transportation of coal and industrial products is expanding. In 2015, the Zhengjiaocheng Inter-city Railway (Zhengzhou-Jiaozuo) high-speed railway was opened.

中国、河南(かなん)省北部、山西(さんせい)省との省境の太行(たいこう)山脈南麓にある地級市。4市轄区、4県を管轄し、2県級市の管轄代行を行う（2016年時点）。人口369万6000（2014）。1956年に市となった。炭鉱の開発は唐代から始まり、20世紀初頭には中国最大級の良質の無煙炭炭鉱が開発された。また、鉄鋼やセメント、製薬工場なども建設され、河南省有数の工業都市に発展している。新月線（新郷(しんきょう)―月山）のほか、本市から洛陽(らくよう)東、南陽(なんよう)を経て、湖北(こほく)省襄陽(じょうよう)、枝城(しじょう)、湖南(こなん)省懐化(かいか)、広西(こうせい)チワン族自治区柳州(りゅうしゅう)へ向かう焦柳線が通じ、太焦線も山西省太原(たいげん)までつながり、石炭や工業製品の輸送が拡大している。2015年には高速鉄道の鄭焦城際鉄道（鄭州(ていしゅう)―焦作）が開通した。
