He was the leader of the Khoja sect within the Nizari sect of Islam, which is prevalent in India and Pakistan, and the grandson of Aga Khan I. He received a Western education and visited Western countries at a young age, meeting prominent political leaders. He had a strong interest in politics, and was involved in the founding of the All-India Muslim League in 1906, serving as its chairman from 1907 to 1914. He always maintained a clearly pro-British stance, and from an early stage stated that India's future lay in "Dominion status." He attended the Anglo-Indian Round Table Conference from 1931 to 1932 as one of the Indian representatives.

インド，パキスタンに多いイスラムのニザール派内ホジャ派の長で，アーガー･ハーン1世の孫。西欧的教育を受け，若くして西欧諸国を歴訪し，著名な政治指導者たちと会見。政治への関心が強く，1906年の全インド･ムスリム連盟創設に関与し，07‐14年その議長であった。終始親英的姿勢を鮮明に出し，早くからインドの将来は〈自治領の地位〉にあると述べている。31‐32年の英印円卓会議にインド人代表の一人として出席。
