A creed used in Christian liturgy. It is generally called the Nicene Creed, but is also called the Constantinople Creed. It is a concise description of the basic doctrines that the Catholic Church, the Protestant Church, and the Eastern Orthodox Church currently share. The original text is in Greek. Since the mid-5th century, it has been thought that this creed was adopted at the First Council of Constantinople (Second Council, 381), which was held to finally resolve the Arian controversy, but in fact it was established before 381, and like the original Nicene Creed, it seems to date back to the Jerusalem baptismal creed.
