Silesian Weavers' Revolt - Silesian Weavers' Revolt
An uprising of linen and cotton weavers took place in June 1844, mainly in Peterswaldau and Langenbierau (now Bielawa) at the foot of the Eulengebirge Mountains in the south-central part of the province of Silesia in the Kingdom of Prussia. The weavers who were the main participants in the uprising were not modern factory workers, but rural cottage industry workers who were under the control of a wholesaler system and who continued to have feudal ties of subordination to their lords, and the brunt of the uprising was directed at the houses, factories, and machines of the uprising wealthy merchants who had built up their wealth on the poverty of the weavers.
