Dasarupa (English spelling)

The Natyaśāstra (3rd-4th century) by Bharata is the oldest and most authoritative treatise on drama, and includes everything from drama and dance to rhetoric and poetry. Dhananjaya's Daśarūpa (10th century), which summarizes this work, is also famous as a treatise on drama.
[Structure of the play]
According to theatrical treatises, Sanskrit drama has five elements: (1) a germ that brings about the development of the plot, (2) a motive that develops like oil in water, (3) an incident that expands the plot, (4) an episodic accident, and (5) a conclusion, and five stages are defined to reach this conclusion.

…演劇論書として最も古く権威のあるのは，上述のバラタの《ナーティヤ･シャーストラ》(3～4世紀ころ)で，演劇，舞踊から修辞，作詩法にも言及している。さらにこれを要約整理したダナンジャヤDhanañjaya(10世紀)の《ダシャルーパDaśarūpa》も演劇論として有名である。
