An extra-office official established in 818. The Japanese reading is "Administering Officer". Its duties were the construction and repair of various facilities in the Imperial Palace and Kyoto. Its staff consisted of the Chief Daibu (chief official), as well as eight other officials such as Suke, Gonnosuke, Daijo, Shoshin, Daisakan, Shozoku, and Shisho. It was abolished in 826 and merged with the Mokuryo (woodworking office), and re-established in 890 as a large permanent office like the Mokuryo. In the Heian period, it had a betto (head official), during the Insei period, a nenyo (senior official) was placed under Daibu, and during the Nanboku-cho period, Mokugakushi (head official) (Tachibana clan) held the position of Daibu. From the 15th century onwards, the Yamaguni Bugyo (magistrate of the Yamaguni Manor), an Imperial Estate owned by the Imperial Court, took charge of the duties.
