Commercial passenger cars

...Also, passenger cars other than mail cars and baggage cars that have a conductor's room and are equipped with hand brakes and a conductor's valve (a valve for emergency braking) are called brake vans, and in this case the katakana letter 'F' is added after the symbol indicating the purpose mentioned above, and it becomes 'Ohanef', etc. [Hiroshi Nagaoka]
[Type of passenger car]
The Japanese National Railways (now JR) classifies passenger cars broadly according to their use; imperial passenger cars used when the imperial family or state guests travel; commercial passenger cars used to transport passengers, baggage, and small packages for business purposes; and business passenger cars used for various purposes within JR and classified as passenger cars because they have almost the same structure as commercial passenger cars.
