1125-1218 The last king of the Angkor Dynasty in Cambodia. Reigned from 1181 to 1218. Son of the Buddhist Dharanindravarman II. As his posthumous name Mahaparamasougata (meaning "the great supreme Buddhist") suggests, he was a devout Buddhist. He reunited the country, which had been in turmoil due to civil war, usurpation, and an invasion by Champa to the east (1177), and ascended to the throne in 1181. In 1190, he defeated his arch enemy Champa, and annexed the country to Cambodia in 1203. He then conquered neighboring countries, sweeping from the Vientiane area of Laos in the north to the northern Malay Peninsula in the south and up the Menam River basin in the west, making the central part of the Indochina Peninsula his sphere of influence.

カンボジアのアンコール朝最後の隆盛期の王。在位1181‐1218年ころ。仏教徒ダラニーンドラバルマン2世の息子。諡号（しごう）マハーパラマソウガタ(〈偉大な至高の仏教徒〉の意)のとおり，仏教を篤信していた。内乱，王位簒奪（さんだつ），東隣のチャンパの侵入(1177)で混乱した国内を再統一し，1181年に即位した。90年に宿敵チャンパを討ち，1203年カンボジアに併合した。さらに近隣諸国を制圧し，北はラオスのビエンチャン付近から南はマレー半島北部まで，西はメナム川上流域まで席巻し，インドシナ半島の中央部をその勢力範囲とした。
