A bird of the family Parasitidae in the order Grui. This family consists of only one species, found in southeastern Australia. It is 15-17 cm long, with the female being slightly larger than the male. It is very similar to the bandquail, with the female having a more striking plumage color than the male, and the roles of the male and female are reversed during the breeding season, just like in the bandquail family. The male's head, back and tail are grey, with fine black and white stripes, and the throat, chest and abdomen are white with scattered black-brown spots. The female has a collar-like black and white band that runs from the upper chest to the back of the neck, and the lower chest and sides of the head are brown.

ツル目クビワミフウズラ科の鳥。この科はオーストラリアの東南部に分布する1種だけからなる。全長15～17cm，雌は雄より少し大きい。ミフウズラによく似た鳥で，雌のほうが雄より目だつ羽色をしていて，繁殖期の雌雄の役割はミフウズラ科の鳥と同様に逆転している。雄は頭上から背，尾が灰色で，細かい白と黒の縞模様があり，のどから胸腹部は白く，黒褐色斑が散在している。雌は上胸から後頸（こうけい）部を通る首輪のような白と黒の帯があり，下胸部と側頭部は褐色。
