Heinsius, N. (English spelling) HeinsiusN

…Dutch scholar of Western classics. Born in Ghent (now part of Belgium), he studied law at Leiden University, but developed a deep interest in Greek and Roman classics, and later made great achievements in both research and education as a professor of classics at his alma mater. He revised Aristotle's Poetics and published it with a translation and annotations, while also writing his own Treatise on Tragedy, which influenced French playwrights Racine and Corneille. He also revised the works of Terence, Horace, and Seneca, but his greatest academic achievement was his revision of the works of Ovid.
