The area includes Tottori Port (Karo Port) at the mouth of the Sendai River in the northern part of Tottori City. Formerly Karo Village. It is said that Kibi no Makibi, a Japanese envoy to the Tang Dynasty, was washed ashore off the coast of Karo on his way back, and Karo Shrine enshrines Kibi no Daijin. Since the Sengoku period, it has been the outer port of Tottori Castle Town. After the opening of the San'in Main Line, it became the base for the motorized bottom trawl fishing of snow crab and other fish. As an important port, Tottori Port was built as a distribution port in 1990 (Heisei 2), with the construction of a 10,000-ton quay and a 5,000-ton quay.
