A rabbit of the genus Lepus with large ears and hind legs that is widely distributed in North America from southern Canada to Mexico. Four species are known, including the black-tailed jackrabbit L. californicus and the antelope jackrabbit L. alleni , and they are the most common wild rabbit species in North America. They are about 50 cm long, with a tail length of about 6.5 cm and a weight of 2.3 to 4.5 kg. 北アメリカのカナダ南部からメキシコにかけて広く分布する耳と後脚の大きなノウサギ属Lepusのウサギ。オグロジャックウサギL.californicus,アンテロープジャックウサギL.alleniなど4種が知られ,北アメリカではもっともふつうの野生ウサギ類である。体長50cm,尾長6.5cm前後,体重2.3~4.5kg。耳は長く,長さ15cm前後,砂漠にすむアンテロープジャックウサギでは20cm以上になる。
