A saltwater fish of the family Sillago. It is 30cm long. Its name comes from its bluish body color. It is also called Yagisu. It is found at the mouth of the Yoshino River in Shikoku, the mouth of the Kiya River in Yamaguchi Prefecture, Oita Prefecture, Kagoshima Prefecture, and Taiwan. It was once known as a fishing fish in the Edo period (→ Ladder fishing). It is also eaten, but its taste is inferior to that of Japanese whiting.
