Due to the rapid growth of the Chinese economy, trade between Japan and China has expanded significantly. In 2004, the total amount exceeded that of trade between Japan and the United States, making China Japan's largest trading partner for the first time since the end of the war. China's real economic growth rate was recorded at 9.9% in 2005, against the backdrop of the spread of personal cars, personal homes, and mobile phones, the construction of urban infrastructure in preparation for the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2010 Shanghai World Expo, and the expansion of production capacity in steel, automobiles, electricity, and other fields. Strong demand for materials such as steel and synthetic resins, automobile parts, semiconductor electronic parts, and construction machinery has led to an expansion of exports by Japanese companies, including marine transport such as tankers and container ships. How China's high economic growth will continue depends on whether it is able to cool down its overheating, but as it develops from the "world's manufacturing factory" to the "world's consumer market," China will continue to provide opportunities for Japanese companies to increase their profits.

中国経済の急速な成長により日中貿易が大幅に拡大している。2004年の総額は日米貿易のそれを上回り、中国は戦後初めて日本の最大の貿易相手国となった。マイカー、マイホーム、携帯電話の普及、08年の北京オリンピック、10年の上海万博を目指した都市インフラ建設、鉄鋼・自動車・電力などの生産能力拡大などを背景に、中国の05年の実質経済成長率は9.9%を記録した。鉄鋼・合成樹脂などの素材、自動車部品・半導体電子部品、建設機械などの旺盛な需要が、タンカーやコンテナ船などの海運も含めて日本企業の輸出拡大につながっている。中国の高度成長がどのように続いていくかは過熱状態の緩和の成否にもよるが、「世界の生産工場」から「世界の消費市場」へ展開していく過程で、中国は引き続き日本企業にとっての収益拡大機会を提供していくことになろう。
